The Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has recognized Michael Langemeier and Kristi Boswell as recipients of its 2024 Outstanding Alumni Awards, and the Nebraska Corn Board, as the recipient of its 2024 Outstanding Service Award.
The three honors are awarded annually to individuals and organizations in recognition of their significant contributions to agriculture, which align with the department’s research, teaching and outreach in agribusiness, agricultural production and profitability, natural resources, rural development, international trade, and industrial organization.
2024 Award Winners
Michael Langemeier
Langemeier is currently the Director of Cropping Systems, Center for Commercial Agriculture Purdue University. He served as Professor of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University from 2001-2012. He graduated with B.S., University of Nebraska, Agricultural Economics in 1984 and then received a Master’s from the University of Nebraska in 1986. He completed his Ph.D. at Purdue University in Agricultural Economics in 1990. His extension and research interests include crop insurance, cropping systems, bench-marking, financial management and transition planning. He has also held many positions within professional associations (AAEA, WAEA) as well as with the North Central Research Committee and North Central Farm Management Extension Committee.
Kristi Boswell
Boswell currently serves as Counsel for Alston & Bird in Washington DC. She has served as a senior advisor to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, helping to develop and implement the department’s priorities, notably in the areas of agricultural labor and immigration, the 2018 Farm Bill, agricultural trade promotion, crop insurance, and farm and conservation programs. She also served as Policy Advisor to the White House representing agricultural interests in the drafting of H-2A regulatory reforms and immigration legislation. She holds a B.S. degree in agricultural economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2004) and a J.D. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2009.
2024 Service Award – Corn Board
Nebraska Corn Board The Nebraska Corn Board works on behalf of 21,500 corn farmers across the state who invest through the Nebraska Corn checkoff in market development, promotion and research at the local, state, national and international levels. It has partnered with the Department of Agricultural Economics on numerous projects related to farm bill education, the value of Nebraska’s agricultural complex, ethanol’s impact on corn prices, and carbon indexing. The Board also supported the Commodity Trading Room to provide students with real-time marketing experiences and provides student internships at the state, national and international levels.
